The Nintendo Switch has seen numerous Pokémon titles released since its launch in 2017, establishing it as the premier platform to experience the long-running franchise both at home and on the go. By analyzing what's already available on Switch and trends in The Pokémon Company's release patterns, expectations are high for another big year.

Currently, there are over a dozen Pokémon games playable on Switch. This includes several main series RPGs like Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Remakes, like Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee and Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, have also found new life on the hybrid console. Beyond the singles titles, engaging spin-offs like Pokkén Tournament DX, Pokémon Quest, Pokémon Café Mix, New Pokémon Snap, Pokémon Unite and Detective Pikachu Returns provide plenty of variety.

With the immense popularity of Arceus breathing new life into the franchise's gameplay formula, a sequel is all but guaranteed in coming years. Pokémon Legends: Z-A was teased during February's Pokémon Presents with rumors pointing to a Kalos-region setting. 2024 seems too soon, but 2025 could be the year players return to Lumiose City in an open-world adventure. Remakes are also hardly off the table, with the long sought Black and White receiving numerous references in Scarlet/Violet's DLC according to analyst Lowell Bell of The Escapist.

Bell also proposed we may see another experimental title in the vein of Let's Go or Pokémon Snap given Game Freak's willingness to try new concepts. A follow up to the detective spin-off or another entry exploring an alternate gameplay style are definite possibilities. Multiplayer-focused releases like Pokémon Unite are also likely to continue expanding the competitive scene. With numerous possibilities, 2024 promises yet another strong year for the Pokémon series on Nintendo Switch.

Whether we see an early unveiling during a Direct or at next February's Pokémon Presents, seasoned fans have come to expect at least a pair of new games are in the works at any given time. The story of Ash and Pikachu shows no signs of slowing, so Switch owners can rest assured their favorite monsters will keep everyone busy for another busy year and beyond. With near quarterly DLC and remake outings, the future remains bright for the Pokémon video game franchise.

Between the extensive back catalog currently playable and exciting future projects on the horizon, the Nintendo Switch continues to serve as the premier destination to experience all things Pokémon both now and in the years to come. 2024 is poised to deliver even more legendary adventures fans won't want to miss.
