But you don’t need to create new characters. In Path of Exile, the passive skill tree is a core system for customizing your character. It consists of thousands of interconnected nodes that you unlock using passive skill points, which are earned each time your character levels up or completes certain quests. Each class starts at a unique position on the tree, giving early access to nodes that suit its strengths. As you progress, you can branch out into other areas depending on your desired build.

Changing your passive skill allocation in Path of Exile can make a big difference when your current build isn’t performing well. There are two main ways to reset your passive skill points: using Refund Points or using Orbs of Regret.
Throughout the main campaign, several quests reward you with passive skill refund points. Completing these can give you up to 20 refund points in total. These points are valuable, especially for early-game adjustments, and don’t require any special items. Check your quest log often, as some optional side quests also provide refund points. This is the easiest way to respec when you're still progressing through the story.
To reset your passives with Refund Points
Open the passive skill tree by pressing P.
Click the “Refund Passives” button at the top of the screen.
This will highlight all the points you’ve allocated. Click on the ones you want to remove.
Another way to respec is by using Orbs of Regret. Each orb gives you one refund point. You can right-click an Orb of Regret from your inventory and then click on a passive node you want to remove. There is no limit to how many Orbs of Regret you can use, making them ideal for major rebuilds or late-game changes.
You can obtain Orbs of Regret in several ways:
Purchase from vendors like Yeena in Act 2 by trading other currencies.
Loot them from monsters and chests, although the drop rate is not high.
Note that you can only reset points at the end of a branch. You cannot remove a node that connects other nodes, unless the nodes following it have been reset first. This means that deeper resets may require a large number of reset points.
Respeccing in Path of Exile allows you to refine your build, fix early mistakes, or adjust to new gear and challenges. Whether through quest rewards or Orbs of Regret, having the ability to reset your passive points means you're never locked into a bad setup.
